Today is the birthday of John Peel. He taught me how to be a DJ back before I knew I wanted to be one. He championed many bands, including The Fall, The White Stripes, and Joy Division. “Peel Sessions” were and still are a label that I buy almost without question. If John Peel had you on his show, it meant you were worth listening to, and it meant that you were going to put on a good performance. Here’ s a letter that he wrote to one of his listeners. Today’s show is dedicated to him. We should all be so lucky to have great music in our lives. Thankfully, the BBC has kept up the archive of quite a few Peel Sessions.
